Dr. Walter W. Tom, MD, FACS
Dr. Walter Tom, a highly respected cosmetic surgeon, established the Aesthetic Laser & Vein Centers in 1999 with a mission to boost patients’ self-confidence by enhancing their self-image through cutting-edge technology and education, all delivered in a warm, safe, and welcoming environment.
Dr. Tom’s personal philosophy centers on holistic patient care, emphasizing natural-looking results that reflect patients’ best selves. His approach has earned him the Press Democrat’s “Best Cosmetic Surgeon in Sonoma County” award for 9 consecutive years, along with a “Best Aesthetician” award for his office for 4 years.
With a distinguished background in general, vascular, and transplant surgery, Dr. Tom transitioned to cosmetic surgery, founding additional practices in Napa and Maui under Maui Cosmetic Surgery.
His expertise spans advanced, minimally invasive treatments such as HydraFacial, chemical peels, BBL and IPL photofacials, Microneedling, CO2 laser resurfacing, thread lifts, laser hair removal, spider vein sclerotherapy, and injectables like Botox, Dysport, fillers and Kybella. Dr. Tom and his team also specialize in biostimulator therapy that includes PRP, PRF, EZ PRF Gel, Renuva – tissue bank acellular fat matrix, Sculptra, Hyperdilute Radiesse, nanofat and fat grafting.
Dr. Tom also offers surgical procedures, including breast augmentation, lifts, reductions, SmartLipo laser liposuction, tummy tucks, fat grafting, upper eyelid blepharoplasty and endovenous laser ablation.
Committed to innovation, Dr. Tom was the first to introduce IPL therapy for facial rejuvenation in Sonoma County, performed the North Bay’s first non-surgical endovenous laser vein ablation, and pioneered laser liposuction in Northern California. His unique approach using local tumescent anesthesia minimizes post-operative pain and speeds recovery, earning high patient satisfaction.
Dr. Tom is a proud Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, and the California Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, where he previously served as president.
Dr. Tom is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery and the American Board of Facial Cosmetic Surgery. He retired from general, vascular transplant surgery in 2004 as a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery.
A graduate of the University of Michigan and Wayne State University School of Medicine, Dr. Tom completed his general and vascular surgical residency at William Beaumont Hospital and an organ transplant fellowship at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. As chief surgeon, he co-founded the kidney transplant program at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital and played a key role in introducing minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery to Sonoma County.
Dr. Tom has lived in Santa Rosa for 39 years and enjoys spending time with family and friends, cooking, listening to music, and playing ice hockey in his free time.
